Studying abroad often comes at a high cost. But thanks to the generous donations of longtime Arizona State University supporters Adelaida V. and Barry S. Severson, many students at the Arizona State University - Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication can go abroad without having to worry about their finances. The Severson Cronkite Media Global Experience Fund is the largest gift granted to the Cronkite School to support students and encourage them to pursue their aspirations globally. The Severson family’s goal is to help young journalists gain a different perspective and step outside their comfort zones. “My scholarship helped me focus more on school. I was able to get leadership positions and get involved in the community. I also didn't have to take out as many loans as I thought I would have to so now, post-graduation, I can go into a field I'm excited about, and I won't have to worry so much about paying those loans off.”Olivia Lata is an ASU alumna. During her time here, she received the ASU Family scholarship, which you can read more about here: https://ow.ly/wZyz50S1iAq

“I think humans tend to be naturally altruistic; that's what generosity is all about. I'm grateful to donors for giving back. I'm sure they were students at one point. And I'd like to think when I get to a certain point, I'd be a donor as well, because I wouldn't be here without the help of the donors.”Ameya Kulkarni graduated this spring with a Bachelor’s of Science in medical biology. He also studied the philosophy of science, nature and the mind. His journey at ASU was supported by Paul Cerelius through the Dr. Harry Gilbert and Doris Loraine Crecelius Scholarship Endowment. The Design Studio for Community Solutions and the School of Community Resources and Development at came together to create a volleyball clinic for girls in Maryvale. Supported by part of a donation from Mike and Cindy Watts, the girls participating in the clinic picked up on a simple, yet powerful, way to boost each other’s self-confidence: cheering for their teammates. Associate Professor Eric Legg, an expert on youth sports, and Kailei Foltmer, a PhD student in the school, helped create the program. Legg said the school is researching how sports participation impacts girls’ self-esteem, self-identity and relationships.Read more about the impact of this clinic at https://lnkd.in/gBXMaqdS ASU School of Community Resources and Development #BeTheSolution

The Labriola National American Indian Data Center at Arizona State University Library represents a monumental shift toward honoring and amplifying Indigenous voices. Funded initially by a generous gift from Frank and Mary Labriola, the Labriola Center has become a key support for ASU’s growing Indigenous community in the last 30 years as the only all-Indigenous-led and -staffed library within a doctoral university in the continental United States. It serves as a safe space where Indigenous students can find solidarity and belonging in a university landscape. Here, knowledge isn't confined to textbooks; it's alive in oral stories, photographs and maps, honoring diverse ways of knowing.Last month, the Labriola Center inaugurated its new space and celebrated an expansion of its staff. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a labor shortage in water and wastewater treatment plant and system operations. This decline risks failure to provide an essential public health service. The Society of Water and Environmental Leaders (SWEL) at ASU is changing the perception of the industry and is encouraging students of all majors to seek employment in the water and wastewater field. Recently, SWEL was featured in ASU News. You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gYNiAKj3Donors can contribute to the success of this student organization by donating to ASU Foundation. Visit the SWEL page on our site to learn how you can support the student-led organization: https://lnkd.in/gFxMqhAW

Have you been to ASU Gammage? The iconic theater is only possible because of the vision and generosity of Grady Gammage, a former president of ASU. This year marks the 60th anniversary of ASU Gammage being open. It’s one of the most iconic buildings at ASU, host to legendary performances and community programs alike. Every performance has been a masterpiece. "ASU Gammage has been the cultural lynchpin between ASU and the Phoenix metro area. Generations have grown up here viewing it as THE place to see great performances from all over the world." –Grady Gammage, Jr. Thank you to Grady Gammage and every ASU Gammage donor since for six decades of art, innovation and unforgettable experiences.
