At Digitunity, we understand the magnitude of the digital divide, which stands as a barrier to accessing high-speed internet, working computers, and crucial tech skills across the United States. One group hit hardest by this challenge is our nation's childrenโa vulnerable population facing this ongoing issue. In a collaboration to address this pressing challenge, we teamed up with AT&T as part of their Connected Learning initiative. Together, we set an ambitious two-year goal: to provide 20,000 devices to those in need, while also strengthening the capacity of communities to offer free and affordable computers and ongoing support well into the future. This involved activating 11 local nonprofit technology refurbishing organizations within Digitunityโs practitioner network, alongside a wide and diverse range of local businesses, city governments, and nonprofit organizations. By working together, we exceeded expectations and reached our shared goal within the first year."Each partner's story and our collective efforts in closing the digital divide and enhancing opportunities for children are highlighted in our impact report. Our heartfelt thanks go out to AT&T and our nonprofit partners who are making a difference for a more equitable and tech-ready future.@inspireduatl @missionignitecfc @compudopt @digibridgengo @electronic-access-foundation @human-i-t @computer-reach @kramden-institute @c2sdk @interconnection-org @the-wilderness-technology-alliance#10CityProject #BridgeDigitalDivide #ATTImpact

Thrilled to announce Morphic (http://morphic.org) has been selected for the Zero Project 2024 Award! This prestigious award recognizes initiatives that prioritize the needs and rights of persons with disabilities, aiming for a world with zero barriers. Chosen by an international peer-review board among 523 nominations from 97 countries, Morphic was selected for its #innovation, #impact, and #scalability. In a world where computers have become essential for education, work, and civic engagement, they often present barriers for individuals with disabilities, older adults, and those with low digital affinity or literacy. Morphic helps bridge this digital divide by making computers accessible and easier to use. It is a free, open-source tool that provides: - One-click access to built-in accessibility features, such as text size, high contrast, and text-to-speech, via a simple toolbar (i.e., MorphicBar)- AT on Demand, a new feature that enables AT users to access their specific AT (and settings) on any computer they encounter and need to useMorphic is currently installed on over 10,000 computers across various institutions in the US and Canada, including universities, libraries, community centers, rehab programs, and job centers. This recognition is a testament to Raising the Floor's mission to create a world where technology is accessible to everyone. We are excited to present Morphic at #ZeroCon24, hosted at the United Nations buildings in Vienna, Austria, from February 21-23, 2024. This year's conference will focus on Inclusive Education and ICT and gather global innovators and decision-makers to spotlight and speak on solutions to remove barriers for all. Illness hit me this week ๐ค , but I wonโt let that dim how uplifted, motivated and inspired I feel after attending Next Tech Girls first in-person event last Friday ๐ I find full time remote working very challenging at times so this event came at the perfect time! Thank you to the amazing women I met throughout the day - thereโs an indescribable energy when youโre in these kinds of spaces connecting with others that you can relate to and most importantly growth with. Iโm so here for it!๐ Thank you to the incredible teenagers I met - your passion, drive and confidence is incredibly inspiring. Please, do not let anyone take that away from you - itโs your superpower! ๐ช๐พ And finally, thank you and huge congrats to Emily Hall-Strutt for delivering such a wonderful event. The platform you have created for us all is invaluable, I canโt wait to see whatโs next!A few of my top takeaways:- Revisit my personal brand and define my three key themes - I was pretty good with this in my previous career, but havenโt touched it since I career changed.- How to navigate feedback - is it relevant and essential for me to achieve my goals? If so, how can I use this feedback constructively?- Attend more in-person events - honestly, it reignited everything in me. Iโm a people person. I love connection...Let's go! ๐๐พ

We are sad and upset to see Women Who Code closing down. They have been an integral part of the tech world since 2011, yet it sounds like lack of financial funding has forced them to stop their amazing work. codebar is facing similar issues, and we really hope we can pull through. The tech sector needs diverse voices and workers to keep the technologies we build accessible and inclusive. And women and other marginalised groups still face such challenges entering into the tech world...https://lnkd.in/exJmkWc9

Have a read of our latest blog post inspired by our #CommunityTech Discovery Fund about finding ways to make community tech more inclusive of and accessible to everyone.Much of community tech is led by projects and organisations that are traditionally under-represented within funding. Our journey has been about developing how we practice diversity and inclusion to help redress this imbalance. We hope that our reflections will help to prompt ideas and action among others, as well as open up conversations about we can act as a force for good in amplifying the voices of people and communities that may otherwise not be heard.https://lnkd.in/eFeZ26mu
